One Fast Horse

The other day I went on my first hack with Madeline, it was the first time Madeline had been on a hack since we bought her. She was very well behaved, a bit excitable but she was still well behaved. I have been on quite a few hacks with Niko, and he has always seemed pretty fast when I have been cantering, but let’s just say he didn’t seem so fast after I cantered on Madeline. She is a very fast horse, and takes some stopping, anyway all was well and I was happy with her. Sorry about just the one photo but I went for most of the hack by myself.

Thanks for all the comments on my last post.

Abby, yes it is a sturdy jump, it is very nice indeed to do some jumping, just for a bit, and as you mentioned Niko does look like he is enjoying himself so that is a plus.

Sherri, yep it is always good to be able to make something with things on hand, and it is nice to see that it works, well I was a bit worried about making our own jumps, but I think it has worked out pretty well.

  1. Is hack a ride on a trail? It looks like a real nice, lush place to ride.

  2. I think it is always a bit of a worry when you set off on a hack alone for the first time. I am glad Madeline was well behaved and you had a nice ride out on her. I prefer to go out with my friend as she is better at opening and closing the gates than me. I used to be able to do all the gates but think my joints are getting like Spottys... a bit stiff!
Thank you for your kind comments on my post.

  3. That sounds like fun. I assume it's pretty hot where you are? What bit do you ride her in?

  4. Glad to see you have your helmet on!! After such a cold winter, I know it feels great to get out and ride. Our horses are a little "frisky" out this time of year too. Debi

  5. Neat shot of you two!
I love a black horse...someday I'll have one. Madeline must have felt so good being out and about. Yea, the mullen mouth is tough if you wish to stop, and they don't. It's very soft. I used that rubber mullen for a long time. I've a nice steel one too...but she, my mare, abused the privilege of soft. I've been using a""MYLAR" full cheek, ported. She seems to respect it, and it's ready not severe.
My wish is to ride bitless..BUT SOMETIMES CONTROL is much safer in groups, with a bit.

G lad you two had a good hack!
