We Found Your Whorls on It

There are ways of telling horses apart just like humans, we have finger prints which can be used to identify us, but then how do we tell horses apart as they clearly have no fingers? Well you must look to your horses coat, the whorls on your horses coat where the coat hairs change direction are like equine finger prints, well sort of.

Every equine has his or her own unique whorls that can be used to identify them just like humans have finger prints, the number of whorls, where they are located and the specific swirling pattern is all relevant. Whorls must be marked on a horse’s identification papers (passport).

I am getting my first horse today (after over 20 years) and am so excited to see what his identifying marks are. (your blog is a lot of fun, btw)

Another informative post Edward, and on a subject that I feel sure lots of people will not know about.
I am so glad Helen has started to follow your blog :) I also do not see your followers, mine keep disappearing too so wonder if it is blogger problems again.
I will do a post about Spotty and the bean bags rather than leave a very, very, very long comment!
Have a great weekend, Abby

Neat shot there on the hind whorl!!
I did a post a few years back on my mare's "double whorls" on her head...asked if anyoine knew what it meant. I got some very interesting comments from that!

Your post is the most scientific reasoning though~

Margaret, thanks for following and good luck with the new boy he is a lovely looking horse I am sure he’s going to be great.

Abby, looking forward to the post, and yes I think it maybe Blogger I haven’t been able to see my followers for months now and I haven’t been able to see some other blogs followers unless I use Firefox as a browser and then sometimes I have to refresh it like you did.

Love this post, as my Pie has whorls on the sides of his head. I love kissing his whorls. My mother said it means that he is intelligent. I don't know if I would use intelligent as a word to describe Pie, but as a human, I am probably getting it wrong. He is easily our healthiest and happiest horse so he is doing something right - whorls and all. I didn't know that they were like fingerprints!
