My Newish Dressage Saddle

Hello everyone I am back for now, I have been reading your posts so sorry to hear about the bad news some of you have had and happy to hear the good.

Now on with the post, I have just recently agreed to the purchase of this Thorowgood dressage saddle from my riding instructor. They are selling it with a saddle cover, girth, stirrup leathers, stirrup irons, and a pair of roller spurs.

I like this dressage saddle because it is a lot comfier than my old saddle and it puts me in a better position, I also find it a lot easier to get my legs around the horse, my old saddle makes it very hard to get close to the horse.

The saddle is regrettably synthetic but at least that means it is easier to clean, I guess I’ll just have to wait for a Bates Innova Dressage Saddle, but for now I am happy with this saddle.

And finally before I go, hello to my new followers and thanks for following hope you enjoy my blog.

There's nothing at all wrong with it being synthetic, synthetic saddles have come a long way in recent years, and as you say, so easy to keep clean. As long as it's a good fit, that's what counts. I've never had a dressage saddle in all my years so am interested in your comments about what they're like to ride in. I've never done enough dressage to make it worth my while.

Easy to clean AND not easy to always tell a synthetic these days. If it is comfortable and easy on the pocket book that's a win win situation. And it is beautiful too! Congrats.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Jane, quite right synthetic saddles have come a long way, I would still rather have a leather one but, this synthetic one has a lot going for it. It’s very light as well as the other benefits I mentioned, glad you found it interesting I may have more to say on dressage saddles at a later date.

Abby, yes thanks my lessons are still going well but I have many things I need to ask my instructor, I have many concerns, yeah I am very happy to have my new followers along, all’s going pretty good.

Margaret, it’s very comfy and very easy on the pocket unlike a Bates saddle, and yes some synthetic saddles are beginning to look very similar to real leather.

The most important thing is that your saddle is comfortable and suits both you and the horse. Synthetic saddles can last just as long as leather ones if they are looked after properly - and I'm sure you will!

Cool going Ed,
Is that okay I call you that?

My former boarding place had a Thorogood for her Morgan. It was compy, when I rode it..a little bouncy, so I put my "thinline" under it.
I'm so glad to hear its more compy for you too...its all important to preserve oneself , plus your mount, in comfort to be able to perform.

I'm building up to a post, so much has happened in the past month....mostly all about saddles.
I've learned a thing, or three about them in a hurry!

Thanks for the comments.

Andrea, yup you’re right I think it suits Niko and I pretty well, and I will try to keep it in good condition :)

KK, yes of course you can call me that. Yea I think I am a lot more able in this saddle and it’s certainly better for Niko. As I am late on replying to you two I have already read your post it was very interesting nice job on getting it sorted.
