September News

We have finally got around to burning the last of the trees that were ripped up to make room for the paddock, as you can see it was quite a big fire and the flames reached high in to the air.

But sadly I think we will have to relight it to clear up the last bits of branch and twig, but at least then the second paddock will be clear of trees and then all we have got to do is put in the fence posts, easier said than done.

In other news Niko went back to cribbing because after the rain the Cribox was not as effective and he started cribbing again.

We did try using chilli sauce as we had heard it worked but Niko seemed to quite like it so that didn’t work and just ended up giving him… well lets just say the chilli sauce didn’t get on with him!

So we have tried a different way of stopping him that seems to be working but more on the latter.

It’s Time to Go!

We have finally got all the electric fencing up, we had to go with three cords because of Murphy being so small and the others being so big. We haven’t got all the land fenced yet but we have two of three paddocks fenced off, still got the biggest paddock to do.

Then obviously we had to get it electrified which was harder then I thought it would be, as we did not really know what we where doing and the instructions had no writing just lots of pictures, and the crocodile clips didn’t fit so they had to be cut so they could open wider.

But we finally got it ready to have Pip in it, poor Pip learnt not to touch the fence the hard way, but I don’t think he will be doing that again, still he knows now, and then it was time to go get the others.

Murphy went first then Madeline and finally Niko, and as you can see they are enjoying having some grass, for now anyway I can’t see it lasting them but at least we will be able to move them into a different paddock when it runs out, which we could not do at the yard we have just left.

Anyway I am really talking too much, so I’m very happy that we’ve moved. And thank you all for your comments on my last post.

Abby, let me know what you think of Seabiscuit some time.

Sherri, my finger seems to be on the mend I have nearly finished my antibiotic course.

Here's The Plan

As you all know we aren't very pleased with the yard owners and so I have decided to try and move sooner then later. So here's what we are up too, at the moment we are trying to get the fence up and running, we decided to go with electric fencing because it is a lot cheaper then post and rail and we really don't like barbed wire.

We need to sort out the stables as well, but I think that if we can get the paddock fenced all our horses and pones will be fine living out until the stables are ready, as they are all quite used to living out, and we have some great weather here too.

I would really like to hear what you all think of it, if you think it is a stupid idea please just say so I won't be offended.

The Project - Stable Block

We now have a stable block of four boxes, it isn't yet ready to have the horses in as the floor hasn't been put down and it seems it has sunk on one side so one of the doors won't lock. But we have them now and yes they need some adjustments and some other stuff to be fitted but they're quite nice and they're made with log lap which is almost as nice as barrel board which was what I wanted but I am very happy with them. Oh and one of them has no chew strip yet.

And now we can begin to try and get Pip used to being boxed. We put him in the box for the first time today he was not very happy to go in the box but when we got him in he was very well behaved. He is back in the paddock now but we will keep trying to get him used to being boxed. I remember when we put Murphy in a box for the first time he tried to jump out, but now he loves to go in to his box at the end of day and have his hay.

And as of the bonfire one of the yard owners has agreed that it needs to be put out but she is leaving it to the other owner to do it and he is to lazy to do it so the bonfire is still going. If they would just let me put it out this would not be a problem.

And thank you for your comments on my last post.

The Project - Clearing the Land

After some very disappointing livery yards (I might tell you some tales sometime) we finally got the chance to have our own yard in a derelict orchard. This has become "The Project" and I'll be blogging about our progress.

First we had to get a digger in to take out some of the trees which were burnt and then we had fence posts put in using the digger.
Cost: £1,420
